Red Dead Redemption remaster delay for GTA 6

The rumored remaster of Red Dead Redemption, a beloved open-world Western game developed by Rockstar, could face similar challenges to its original 2010 release. Initially praised upon its launch on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the title was exclusive to consoles, limiting its accessibility over time. It was removed from PlayStation Plus and is currently playable only on the original consoles or through Xbox’s backward-compatibility program. This lack of availability has fueled fan anticipation for a remaster or remake in recent years.

Although reports had suggested that Rockstar had canceled the Red Dead Redemption remaster to focus on developing Grand Theft Auto 6 for a Holiday 2024 release, a new rating for the game emerged on June 15 from the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea. Since ratings for the previous versions of Red Dead Redemption already existed in Korea, this new rating strongly suggests a remastered edition of the game.

However, the latest information, as reported by Gematsu, indicates that the game received an NV rating, which raises concerns for PC fans eagerly awaiting an official release. The NV rating typically applies to console games, while the NP rating is associated with PC games. This development suggests that Rockstar’s remaster might repeat the mistake of neglecting a significant portion of the PC market, just like the original release did. This decision seems perplexing, considering Rockstar has its own PC launcher that players can use to purchase titles directly.

Gematsu does mention that an NV rating does not necessarily exclude the possibility of a PC version. However, it is unusual that the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea did not publish a rating for the PC version alongside the console rating, particularly if both were set to release simultaneously. Although there remains some hope for a PC port in the future, it would be disappointing if PC players were once again forced to wait even longer to experience this highly anticipated title.

Title: Potential Remasters of Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4 Uncertain Following GTA Trilogy’s Poor Performance

On July 4, 2022, Tez2 (Twitter/@TezFunz2), a reputable insider, revealed that the gaming studio had previously considered remastering Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4. However, it seems that the disappointing performance of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition may have influenced the studio’s decision. The plans for these remasters were envisioned several years ago.

Another insider named Chris Marxx (Twitter/@MarxxChris) reported on June 22, 2023, that Rockstar Games would be postponing the release of their upcoming game until 2025. According to Marxx, it remains uncertain whether an official announcement of the title will be made this year, as the gaming studio prefers to maintain at least a year’s gap between announcement and release.

Despite the excitement sparked among fans when the leaked map for GTA 6 surfaced online a few months ago, recent statements have urged them to exercise patience. It is important to note that this information should be taken with caution, as no official reports have been released thus far.
