Cristiano Ronaldo clinches his inaugural championship with Al Nassr, marking the club’s historic victory in the Arab Club Champions Cup. The momentous occasion unfolded as he netted two goals during a riveting 2-1 extra-time triumph against domestic rivals Al Hilal on Saturday at the King Fahd Stadium.

In the previous season, Ronaldo faced disappointment in his pursuit of silverware after joining Al Nassr. Despite the team securing the runner-up position in the Saudi Pro League, the 38-year-old veteran showcased his prowess by scoring six goals throughout the tournament. This impressive feat not only secured his position as the top scorer but also paved the way for the coveted championship title.

The tournament gathers the elite Arab clubs in the region, featuring teams from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria.

In a game where Al Nassr boasted an array of star players but finished with 10 men, numerous opportunities arose to break the deadlock during the opening half. Recent signings Sadio Mane, Seko Fofana, and Marcelo Brozovic were all thwarted by goalkeeper Mohammed Alowais. The match remained goalless until the sixth minute of the second half, when Al Hilal’s Malcom delivered a cross that found fellow Brazilian Michael, who nodded in a header to give his team the lead.

Adding insult to injury, Michael celebrated by mimicking Ronaldo’s iconic goal celebration, sprinting to the corner flag and leaping into the air.

This seemed to ignite Ronaldo, and the Portuguese captain leveled the score in the 74th minute, capitalizing on a low cross from right-back Sultan Al-Ghannam, thus extending his scoring streak to five consecutive games.

Al Nassr’s defender Abdulelah Al-Amri was shown a red card in the second half, while Nawaf Boushal received the same fate from the bench for arguing with an official. Despite being down to ten men, they managed to hold on and push the game into extra time.

Ronaldo then extended the lead during the initial period of extra time, seizing a rebound off the crossbar and expertly heading it into the net with the goalkeeper out of position.

However, concerns arose when Ronaldo was taken off the field due to an apparent injury following a collision in the second half of extra time, just two days prior to their Saudi Pro League opener against Al Ettifaq.
